According to reports in The Mirror, West Ham United have had a £27m bid rejected for highly-rated Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.
What’s the word, then?
Well, despite adding Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson to his side’s attacking options already this summer, it appears that Irons boss Manuel Pellegrini isn’t finished yet according to the latest report in The Mirror.
The Mirror say that the east London outfit have had an offer for the promising centre-forward rejected, with the La Liga side demanding that his £35m release clause his met if he is to leave.
Should the 21-year-old end up moving to the London Stadium before the deadline on August 9, he would be competing with the likes of Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez for a spot in the starting XI at the London Stadium.
Would he be a good signing for West Ham?
He certainly would be, and he would be just another part of what could end up being a perfect summer transfer window for the club.
Gomez showed the quality and class that he has with 18 goals and five assists in 36 Spanish top flight appearances in his first season with Celta, and the fact that he played back-up to Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani at the 2018 World Cup shows just how highly-thought of he is both domestically and at international level.
West Ham, who could make their most underrated signing since Aaron Cresswell if they get Chelsea man, must raise their offer to get a deal for done, but it wouldn’t come without its own terrible consequences with it surely leading to Hernandez’s exit given he, Gomez and Arnautovic would likely all be competing with one spot depending on which formation Pellegrini intends to utilise during the 2018/19 campaign.
