Ter Stegen is currently Barcelona's longest-serving player, as the German goalkeeper has been with the Catalan side since 2014, and been club captain following Sergi Roberto's departure last summer. The 33-year-old has been heavily criticised over the past half a decade by Blaugrana fans for supposed failures in between the sticks, and following his injury early in the 2024-25 season, he was replaced by Inaki Pena, and then by Wojciech Szczesny, both of whom outperformed the German.
