Manchester United’s key men at both ends of the pitch have endured difficult starts to the new Premier League season. Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have all had their critics in the heart of the Red Devils’ defence, whilst Jose Mourinho hauled off Eric Bailly with less than 20 minutes played and his side already 2-0 down against Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, the club’s No. 9, Romelu Lukaku, has just four goals in all competitions and has failed to score in each of his last eight outings.
Manchester United are currently in 10th place in the league table with nine matches played, trailing leaders and bitter local rivals Manchester City by nine points already. Given this concerning state of affairs, manager Jose Mourinho is coming under intense pressure at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese boss may already be looking toward the January transfer window for his salvation, at which point he may have to choose between spending big on a top class striker or centre-back. The odds of landing both in the winter window are very slim.
Opting to pursue an elite level defender would be wise. Many of United’s current crop at the back simply are not good enough. The club’s attacking options, however, such as Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford, are just in poor form.
What do you think, United fans – should you be going all out in the chase for a new centre-back or striker in January?
