Everton are yet again struggling in the Premier League as they are currently 17th in the league table, however, a new update ahead of their return to action after Christmas will give Frank Lampard a huge boost.
What’s the latest?
Toffees striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has taken to Twitter to tease fans about his imminent recovery from another injury problem that has kept him sidelined this season.
The fan favourite – who has been out of action since November 5th – posted an image of himself on the social media platform with the caption “back in the gym”.
Lampard could save millions
It is no secret that Everton are in desperate need of an increase in their goal contributions at Goodison Park as whilst the side have improved their defensive stability, their attacking threat has suffered.
Indeed, the loss of Richarlison in the summer and Calvert-Lewin’s constant injury struggles have had a knock-on effect on the lack of clinical finishing in front of goal with no one in the squad scoring more than three times in the league. As a result, it is something Lampard is keen to address in the transfer window when it reopens next month.
However, with the latest news that Calvert-Lewin could be back in action sooner rather than later, the manager could now save the club millions on the acquirement of a new goal-scorer by placing his faith in the Everton stalwart, providing he can stay fit.
Over 197 appearances for the Merseysiders, the 6 foot 2 hitman – who was hailed “exceptional” by Sky Sports presenter Pete Graves – has scored 59 goals and delivered 18 assists, with probably his most important goal coming from his strike against Crystal Palace that secured Everton’s survival during their relegation scrap last season.
Lampard is a huge fan of his talented striker and has consistently heaped praise on Calvert-Lewin whilst also reiterating the importance of his vital presence in the team:
“If we can keep him fit, he is a huge player for us and a big reference at the top end of the pitch.
“But Dominic, with his attributes and history of what he can do at this club, allows you to work off him in different ways.”
“He has been great. When I say that, throughout the period of time I have been here, he has a real desire to be playing regularly and showing what he can do. He has done everything he can do, which can sometimes be frustrating, but has handled himself in the right way.”
It could be a huge risk for Lampard to rely on Calvert-Lewin to stay fit over the second half of the season but there is no doubt that if the striker can maintain his fitness, he will make a huge difference at Goodison Park in their pursuit for a more comfortable finish in the Premier League.
