After a season of heavy spending, underperforming and dour football under Sam Allardyce, Everton have appointed Marco Silva as they look to engineer some forward momentum.
All that remains is for their players to get through international duty without injury or incident and then Everton can embark on a summer of spending and trying to create a new era at Goodison Park.
However, while that might have been the plan, it didn’t work out that way for Cenk Tosun, who was sent off in a 2-2 draw against England’s opening group stage opponents, Tunisia.
It looked initially as if controversy was going to dog Everton right until the last stages of the season, but it transpires that the front man was protecting his father after a flare was thrown at him and lost his rag slightly.
