Liverpool ran riot against Brighton at Anfield on Sunday, beating The Championship outfit 6-1 to make the FA Cup quarter finals.
Martin Skrtel gave the hosts an early lead, before Kazenga LuaLua levelled things up for the visitors; however Luis Suarez, Andy Carroll and three owns goals from Gus Poyet’s men resulted in a one-sided scoreline.
Despite The Reds taking on another Championship side in the Carling Cup final next weekend in the form of Cardiff, Kenny Dalglish does not feel that this win will give them any help ahead of the Wembley fixture.
“It gets us into the next round of the FA Cup,” the Scottish manager told ESPN.
“It does not really help us in the League Cup. We will not be carried away.
“We have got our reward for what we have done there and we have got a cup final at Wembley to look forward to,” he admitted.
Under-fire striker Suarez also missed a penalty in the rout, and his boss joked that the Uruguayan was a bad choice of taker.
“That was a bad decision!
“There was Charlie [Adam] and Dirk [Kuyt] wanted to take it. Maybe if it had not have been 5-1, one of them would have taken it.
“But I thought it would have given Luis a wee leg up and help him on his way and get a goal at The Kop, which would have done his confidence no harm.
“But he did not need my help. Big Andy gave him all the help he needed with the sixth goal,” he concluded.
Liverpool will now take on Stoke in the next round of the competition.
